The weight of adulthood has felt extra heavy lately. Maybe it’s weird to say it that way, when I’m halfway through my 30s. I’m ok, without going into too much detail, it’s just that some things are taking up my mindspace while I try to keep it together.
I jump around from game, to game, to game. Nothing feels quite right, nothing hits the right way, it’s like trying to eat while I have a cold and I still love lasagna, but I can’t savour it.
I put the Switch or Deck away, I cuddle my dog, I talk a bit on Discord, I window-shop game deals. I don’t feel like writing for the blog, or making art, or doing crafts, or reading a book, or listening to my podcasts. Then boredom strikes.
If you asked me, I would say that feeling bored is not a bad thing! We should fight the instinct of wanting to be productive at all times! You should take the time to feel bummed when something doesn’t go the way you wanted, or protect your energy when you don’t have a lot of it. But when I’m the one at the end of my own advice, I just want my routine back. Lose myself in a game, draw something after a random idea popped into my head while walking the dog, write a game review.
I debated whether I should post this. It’s all over the place, off-topic for the blog’s general theme, and I didn’t even know what I wanted to say. But I like that I’ll have this time capsule when these feelings are nothing but a blur. So I wrote some jumbled words and, not without some hesitation, pressed that publish button.
Game featured in the cover: A Space for the Unbound.
