Moonstone Island Deluxe Edition unboxing

Today’s post is a bit different than usual as I will through the beautiful physical Deluxe Edition of Moonstone Island for the Nintendo Switch. This post is not sponsored and I don’t get anything from the links I added here!

Moonstone Island is an indie creature collecting/life sim game released in 2023, developed by Studio Supersoft and published by Raw Fury. This limited physical edition was published by Super Rare games in November 2025 and started shipping in February – I received mine this month!

I paid £84 for the Deluxe Edition (including taxes and shipping), whereas the regular edition is priced at £31 (with taxes and shipping it would cost me £50). Worth calling out that the product ships from the UK, while I’m located in the EU – which made taxes and shipping pretty salty for me.

If you don’t know Super Rare Games, they are a publisher that create limited physical editions for indie games, not only for the Switch but also for PS5. Moonstone Island is their release #143 so they’ve done a lot of them since starting their business in 2018, for example: Human: Fall Flat (which was their first title!), A Short Hike, Lil Gator Game, Planet of Lana, Dungeons of Hinterberg and others.

But don’t you play only digital games?, you might be thinking now and you’d be correct, but:

I am now a Switch 2 owner, so it’s really cool to have the option of purchasing collector’s editions.

Could this be the beginning of my collector era?

Plus, I absolutely love Moonstone Island – I have around 100 hours on Steam! – and when I heard it was getting a physical release with a bunch of goodies, I decided to just go for it.

What comes in this Deluxe Edition

  • Standard Nintendo Switch game with cartridge; Supported Languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese
  • Manual printed in color
  • Exclusive sticker
  • Alchemist Certification
  • Trading card set including shiny cards

Words from the developer

I reached out to Sandy Spink, developer behind Moonstone Island and Studio Supersoft, to ask him about the physical edition, and here’s what he told me:

“I wanted to fill our collector’s edition with things that reminded me of how I experienced games and media I loved as a kid. I remember poring over a game manual on the car ride home from the store, before I even got to put it in the console — so we designed ours to feel like a classic video game manual. I collected stickers of all my favorite Pokémon and anime characters, so we included a sticker book. And since I was deep into Pokémon cards, we designed our own set of collectible cards and tucked those in too. I hoped that together, these things would give fans that same feeling of wonder and excitement I grew up with.” – Sandy Spink

Is it worth it?

I think this was the perfect first collector edition for me. I found all the goodies to be very high quality and simply adorable. I loved that they thought of adding trading cards, considering this is a deckbuilder game, and the Fishbo keychain is so cute! I also loved supporting an indie game in this way.

The only thing that I wish they had baked in into the physical edition are the game’s cosmetic DLCs. As of now, there are about 7 DLCs with decoration items. It would have been a nice touch to have them included.

Photos and more photos

All the pictures below were taken by me! I hope you enjoy them 🙂

I took the picture above with the game running on my Switch 2, however the game is for the Switch.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this different kind of post, I had a lot of fun taking the photos for it.

And a special thank you to Sandy for sharing his thoughts on the physical edition with the readers.

  1. So pretty!! I didn’t even know there was a physical edition like this. I love the booklet with the creatures in it! So cool!

    1. The booklet is really cute!! It reminds me of old game manuals!

  2. Those pack-ins really set it apart 🙂

I try to get physical editions when I can. Unfortunately, the Switch 2 threw me a curve when I bought Pokopia only to find out it was a key card and not an actual cartridge 🙁

    1. Honestly, I also hate that it was a key card. Why?? 🙁
At least you can still resell it, but it still sucks.

How cool Luna! Agreed, a good choice for a first collectors edition. Hoping it all finds a nice home in your space

    1. Thanks, Dillon! My house is still a mess (ever since I moved) but I’m really hoping to eventually have a cute corner for everything.
