Spooktober: week 1 update

It has been one week since I announced the Spooktober play along and I thought it would be fun to share updates along the way.

First of all, I finished playing Doki Doki Literature Club. The game takes some time to show its true (horror) colors, but when it does…!!! I don’t want to spoil the game, so I’ll leave it at that.

When I got to the end, I didn’t want it to be done. I’m glad that they released this “plus” edition where you get some extra content and I want to dive into that for sure.

Then, I decided to start playing Bloomtown: A Different Story, since it’s the longest game in my list and I wanted to put some hours in. I’ve played about 4 or 5 hours of it so far.

My first impressions of the game were great: the pixel art and animations are gorgeous, the soundtrack features so many catchy tracks, and the story – two children that arrive in a small town and start investigating the mystery of other children disappearing – got me hooked. But I am finding a few nitpicks as I’m playing. For example, the game has wayyyy too much stuff to do! You can work a part-time job to earn some money (so you can buy items or supplies), read books to level up your traits, farm, hang out with NPCs, take on a lot of side quests, work out, and the list keeps going… This means that I’m not even done with the first dungeon yet. Where’s the sense of urgency regarding the kids’ disappearances?

You might be thinking now: Luna, this is a JRPG, girl! Why didn’t you know it would go that way? Well, I don’t know, ok, I just wanted to kill some demons with my NPC friends.

It’s a bit early on so I’m hoping I will enjoy it more as the story progresses.

Are you planning to play any spooky games this month? Let me know which one(s) in the comments!
