Luna’s Gaming Log turns 1 today! Looking back and ahead

First things first: I’m doing an anniversary giveaway for subscribers that were subscribed before I launched the giveaway – fill in this Google Form for a chance of winning a free copy of PancitoMerge or Fading Serenades. I will spin the wheel later today at 5PM CEST so be fast!

On this day one year ago, I was publishing the blog’s first two posts. Even though I created the blog on a whim, because I am known for being super dedicated to new projects for the duration of 2 seconds, I set myself some goals and structure.

First of all, I decided I would stick to blogging for one year (at least). That would give me enough time to figure out if it’s something I liked despite of the ups and downs that come with writing.

Then, to help with that, I told myself I would post once a week, no matter what. After a brief internet research, I settled on Tuesdays.

My third goal was to have 10 people reading the blog that weren’t my in-real-life friends or family.

And how was it in practice?

I published 55 posts in total (counting this one but excluding polls) and I long surpassed my goal of 10 readers. There were some other really fun and unexpected things that happened this year and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate.

But like most people I know that blog will say, the community and connection you build when you write has got to be the best part of doing it. Yes, I would feel happy writing even if no one else read it (you kinda have to, if you’re doing this every week), but posting something and starting a discussion about it, or hearing from my best friend she liked my monthly update, or getting a message from a reader saying they really enjoyed a game I recommended, or discovering a new great blog to follow because the owner found me… I can go on, but you get it. Simply put, it feels I’m not alone.

It’s funny that I did not predict that this would be my favorite part of blogging at all.

What’s next?

It’s me, so making new goals is part of the fun going into year 2.

I mentioned recently that I don’t want to stick to weekly Tuesday posts anymore. I need more flexibility and I’ve established I can be consistent. But I will aim at 4 posts per month. And once again, stick to writing for one more year at least.

I’m not setting a subscriber or follower goal, but it would be nice to be discovered by more people who would like my content. So I’ll keep making a basic effort on social media… even though that’s my least favorite part.

And I would like to keep trying out new things even if that feels scary sometimes. I have many ideas and that’s exciting.

Final words of wisdom

You should start a blog. It’s fun.

Want to get cheesy? Let me know in the comments what was your favorite post in the blog so far. 🙂

Here’s to another year of Luna’s Gaming Log! 🥂
