5 very unusual demos from Steam Next Fest

Steam Next Fest is happening right now and goes until October 20th. If you don’t know, this is a week-long event where hundreds of demos from upcoming games are made available on Steam for players to check out.

I still haven’t had the time to play any demos yet, but for today’s post I decided to share a bit of a different selection from the demos I saw. I found some charmingly weird games participating this time and I figured it would make for an interesting post.

If you’re curious about any of them, try out their demos and/or add them to your wishlist! This really helps indie developers.

Dogpile – Merge dogs into big dogs in this roguelike deck builder

Dogpile is a roguelike deck builder about merging cute dogs into bigger dogs. When two of the same dog touch, BAM! You get a BIGGER dog. With careful placement, some clever purchases, and a can-do attitude, you can merge pups strategically and achieve the biggest dogs imaginable.

Palianytsia – Have you ever wanted to be bread? Well, in this game you can!

In this game, you are a palianytsia — a traditional Ukrainian bread. You escape the kitchen, solve puzzles, and uncover your true nature. What begins as a bright, cheerful journey slowly turns into horror as you try to understand what’s really going on.

PIXEL DASH: Toast of Destiny – Live your anime dreams in this side-scrolling game where you run with a toast in your mouth

Pixel Dash: Toast of Destiny is a side-scrolling, fast-paced anime action game with a classic dot-picture style. The main character, Haruka Ran, is a regular high school girl who’s eager to meet her destiny. With a slice of bread in her mouth, Ran will start running again today!

MOCHI-O – Raise a kawaii hamster that’s actually an annihilation weapon

A doomsday land defense adventure in which you raise MOCHI-O, a weapon of annihilation that looks a lot like a hamster, to protect your country. Pet and raise MOCHI-O to defeat the oncoming enemies and fight through the tender post-apocalypse.

Foolish Earthlings! – Capture humans into your UFO in this side scrolling action game

A side scrolling side-on shooter from the depths of a long-lost arcade cabinet where you take the role of a UFO on the hunt for human prey! Capture them alive with your tractor beam and pull them into your saucer while unleashing your heat ray upon tanks, planes, and all manner of military might!

  1. Dogpile is like Suika Game mixed with a deck-builder and I didn’t know I’d want that combo so incredibly hard ⚡
